n my 13 years as a high school Student Assistance Coordinator/Counselor, binge drinking, especially over Prom weekend, was the most pressing issue for parents and educators regarding student safety and well being. This is the best piece of advice I have ever given parents to help deter their teen from binge drinking and all the risks that come with it: alcohol poisoning and potential death, accidents caused severe injury, physical and sexual assault, etc. The goal is to HEAR your child's voice so you can evaluate their ability to respond and their coherence. If you feel they may be at risk: go to where they are regardless of their pleas not to do so. It's better to have a safe child who is angry at you, rather than a child at risk of adverse consequences and even death. This is an effective strategy and do not take "no" for an answer. Flex 💪 your parent muscles here, it's critical and potentially lifesaving.
